One of the internships I'm doing this semester is working at Escuela Manzo, which has this crazy amazing garden and ecology program. I help out a bit with that, but mostly I'm trying to bring gardening lessons into the classroom curriculum. Yesterday I helped a couple 3rd graders bake brownies in the solar oven. It was really fun, the kids had a great time. Lots of teachable moments too, from reading the directions on the box, to talking about fractions (1/4 cup oil!) and temperature.
