Birds of Iceland

Okay, so Iceland doesn't have very many or very interesting birds (the exception of course, being the Puffin, which I will have to go back to see because they migrate away by the end of August), but I did keep track of birds I saw. 

Here's a display at the Katla Visitor's Center in Vik. It's basically every animal native to Iceland in this small case.

 

Around the Blue Lagoon:

Common Raven

It was so windy on our way out of the blue lagoon, that Common Raven blew right out of the shot!

 

Around Reykjavik (including The Pond by City Hall):

Greylag Goose

European Starling (most common in the city. Heard them singing outside our window at the hotel)

Whopper Swan

Mallard

Common Loon

Greater Scaup

Around the Air bnb:

Redwing (New lifer! A good Icelandic bird- related to American Robins. They were flying around in the trees all around our cottage.)

Around Heimaey (Westmann islands) and Seljalandsfoss:

Many gulls, species unknown to me. Why spend time trying to ID gulls, amirite?

Great Cormorant

Merlin! (Sitting on the wire fence on our drive into our hotel!)

Rock Ptarmigan! (In a field by our hotel!)

At the pub in Vik:

 White Wagtail! (cutie!)
